Handling Spa Treatments

Waxing

We recommend that arms and legs are waxed 24 hours prior to the time of application to ensure that any residue left on the skin will be gone before the henna application.

Shaving

Shaving can be done on the day of application. Shaving is NOT advisable for the wedding day as you may remove the top layer of the colour.

Manicures ⁄ Pedicures

We recommend that manicures and pedicures are completed the day before the application of mehendhi. The salon will use chemicals and creams which may adversely affect the colour of your mehendhi.

Moisturisers

We recommend that all areas of henna application are free from creams and moisturisers. They can form a barrier and prevent the mehendhi from penetrating the top layer of your skin, which can in turn, adversely affect the colour of the design.

Bridal After Care Instructions:

  1. Before the henna application, make the sugar solution (fixing solution). Mix 2 tablespoons sugar in a mug of hot water.. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Let the design dry until it starts to form a crust. Gently dab the fixing solution onto the design with cotton ball. This will re-wet the henna paste and make it stick to the henna and darken the design. The longer you keep the crust on your skin, the darker the stain. You can keep dabbing the fixing solution, just make sure its not running as it will leave streaks on your skin.
  3. Let the crust flake away by itself. If the crust is still on your skin there before going to bed, apply cooking oil and gently scrape off
  4. DO NOT wash the crust off with water for at least 24 hours.
  5. After removing the crust, wear very large cotton socks. This will protect your bedding and keep the area warm. Henna needs heat to get darker so the warmer you keep it in the first 24 hours, the darker the stain.
  6. The stain will start off a light orange and deepen to a dark mahogany brown. It will last anything from 1 – 3 weeks depending on your skin and where it is applied on your body. It takes the 2 days for the stain to develop, so DON’T PANIC if it is a light/medium orange at first, it will darken over 48 hours.
  7. Remember, hands and feet will dye darker than any other part of the body.
  8. Under any circumstances do not wear plastic bags or gloves to protect the henna. Plastic will cause the henna to dampen and smear the design.
  9. The more often you protect the henna design from water, perspiration, and chlorine, the longer it will last
